Prepare for a Healthy Spring Break
What to Pack from Your Local Pharmacy

At MSU Health Care Pharmacy, we're here to provide university students, faculty, staff, and retirees with everything you need for a worry-free Spring Break. Here’s a quick guide to the essential travel health items you should pack before heading out on your next adventure.
Essential Medications to Pack
Prescription Medications: Bring enough of your regular prescription medications to last the entire trip, plus a few extra days in case of delays. Keep them in their original containers with labels to avoid issues at customs.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medications
- Pain Relievers: Pack acetaminophen or ibuprofen for headaches, muscle pain, or fever.
- Antihistamines: Carry antihistamines like diphenhydramine or loratadine for allergies.
- Antacids: Bring antacids or acid reducers for indigestion or heartburn relief.
- Antidiarrheals: Medications like loperamide can be lifesavers if you experience traveler’s diarrhea.
- Motion Sickness Medication: If you’re prone to motion sickness, bring medications like dimenhydrinate or meclizine.
Travel-Specific Medications
Antimalarials: If you’re traveling to a region where malaria is prevalent, consult your healthcare provider for antimalarial medications.
Altitude Sickness Medication: For high-altitude destinations, consider medications like acetazolamide.
Health Products to Include
- First Aid Kit: A basic first aid kit should include adhesive bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and medical tape. Our pharmacy offers pre-packaged travel first aid kits for your convenience.
- Sun Protection: Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by packing a high-SPF sunscreen. Don’t forget lip balm with SPF and sunglasses.
Insect Repellent: If you’re traveling to areas with mosquitoes or other insects, bring an insect repellent containing DEET or picaridin to prevent bites and potential diseases like Zika or dengue fever.
Hand Sanitizer and Disinfectant Wipes: Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes are essential for maintaining hygiene, especially in areas where soap and water might not be readily available.
- Vaccination Records and Travel Insurance: Carry copies of your vaccination records, especially if you need proof of certain vaccinations for entry into specific countries. Also, have your travel insurance details handy.
